Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, is one of the most commonly used methods to help children manage mild to moderate anxiety. It is delivered through a small mask that gently rests over the child’s nose, helping them feel relaxed. Your child will be gently guided to breathe through their nose instead of their mouth, making the process feel more comfortable and natural for them. As the gas takes effect, your child will feel more at ease while remaining awake and able to communicate with the dentist.
After the appointment ends, your child will start breathing regular oxygen, which helps eliminate the nitrous oxide from their body. As children grow and become more confident during dental visits, they may no longer require the use of nitrous oxide.
